Description

This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the fundamental role that digital competencies play in the contemporary university environment. It examines how the convergence of technology and pedagogy has transformed teaching, establishing a new educational paradigm. Key concepts such as digital competencies for teachers, their dimensions, and their impact on teaching practice are addressed. It also delves into digital literacy as a central element of professional development, highlighting the importance of training in the educational use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), as well as in technology-mediated didactic innovation. The text presents a study conducted in the Peruvian university context, presenting an empirical study. Through the analysis of data collected at five public and three private universities, the digital competencies of teachers are assessed in three main dimensions: digital literacy, ICT teaching, and digital content creation. The findings reveal heterogeneous levels of competency, as well as various structural and training challenges that must be addressed. The book concludes by offering strategic recommendations to strengthen teacher training and promote the effective integration of ICTs in Peruvian higher education. This work is essential for academic administrators, trainers, and teachers interested in improving educational quality in 21st-century digital environments.
