Description

The Proceedings of the Center for Research on the Development of Coffee-Growing Regions (CENIDERCAFÉ) 2024, affiliated with the Autonomous University of Chapingo, reflect the center’s sustained commitment to the comprehensive development of rural communities and coffee-producing regions in Mexico. This edition brings together research aimed at generating innovative solutions to the social, economic, productive, and environmental challenges faced by coffee-growing territories. Through its three strategic pillars, productive diversification, strengthening of productive chains, and technological development for sustainability and natural resource management, this volume presents projects that combine scientific knowledge with local expertise, promoting practical and sustainable alternatives. Highlighted contributions include deep-litter pig fattening as a profitable and environmentally responsible model, the introduction of new calla lily varieties, the application of biostimulants and bocashi in asparagus cultivation, as well as strategies for coffee marketing and positioning, strengthening value chains in smallholder regions, and the valorization of artisanal products such as queso tetilla. In addition, the volume documents advance in sustainable cattle farming, comprehensive animal health management, socioeconomic diagnostics of communities, and improvement programs for native maize varieties, aimed at preserving genetic and cultural diversity. This collection reflects more than two decades of institutional experience based on close collaboration with producers and communities, generating applied knowledge that enhances productivity, resilience, and sustainability in rural territories. Overall, the work not only records scientific and technical advances but also projects a transformative vision of rural development, consolidating CENIDERCAFÉ as a key factor in building more productive, equitable, and environmentally responsible regions.
