Description
The work addresses student conflicts in schools in the city of Machala, Ecuador; situations that have become a topic of debate in recent decades. To determine the problematic situation, it was necessary to carry out a field study, which required interviews with students, parents and teachers from the different educational centers selected for this purpose. Among the main findings we find that a wide range of conflicts are present in daily school life, a situation that allowed us to determine that the complexity of society is directly reflected in the school, which, as a mirror, observes how the foundations of knowledge and wisdom have to share ideological spaces with practical aspects and social conflicts. In this framework, school mediation and restorative practices are conceived as tools that contribute to preventing escalation towards situations of violence and at the same time constitute an opportunity to train adolescents and young people for life in democracy, peace and human rights.
