Description
This book presents the Pig Breeding Program: A Comprehensive Approach to Sustainable Learning, developed at the Faculty of Agriculture and Nutrition of the Universidad Nacional de Educación “Enrique Guzmán y Valle” (Peru). In response to persistent gaps between theory and practice in agricultural education, this program proposes an innovative educational strategy that coherently integrates biosecurity, animal welfare, environmental management, and professional ethics, aiming to strengthen students’ technical, social, and environmental competencies. Through active, participatory, and experiential methodologies, the program fosters inclusive, meaningful, and lasting learning. Future professionals not only acquire technical knowledge but also develop critical awareness of sustainable pig farming and its social and environmental impact. This comprehensive training enables students to become agents of change capable of responsibly engaging with their communities and the agricultural sector. The book addresses the main health, ethical, and environmental challenges of contemporary pig farming, highlighting the importance of applying updated protocols and best practices that contribute to food security and sustainable rural development. Furthermore, it presents empirical evidence of the program’s positive impact on students’ academic and professional performance. Ultimately, this educational proposal represents a significant contribution to pedagogical innovation in agricultural education, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, and emphasizes the need for training that integrates theory, practice, and ethics to meet the complex challenges of the agricultural sector in both local and global contexts.
