Sophia Editions is an academic publishing house based in Tampa, Florida, United States, established on July 1, 2024, and officially registered in the State of Florida under registration number L24000306364. Sophia is the Greek word for “wisdom”; the wisdom acquired when knowledge is applied effectively. Knowledge becomes wisdom when it is assimilated, transformed into a way of life, and used to make sound decisions that enable us to distinguish between what is beneficial and what is not. As Socrates himself stated in his time: “Knowledge is virtue; and only if you know can you see the good”. In this spirit, Sophia Editions was conceived as a multidisciplinary publishing initiative dedicated to scientific works across all fields of knowledge.

Founded with a strong international vision, Sophia Editions publishes and brings scientific works to a global audience, connecting researchers, ideas, and knowledge across borders. Spanish and English are its primary publishing languages, while works in Portuguese are also accepted, reinforcing its multilingual identity and growing presence in the global academic landscape.

Its Editorial Board reflects this international dimension, bringing together academics and researchers affiliated with institutions across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. For the selection of works, Sophia Editions uses plagiarism-detection software and external reviewers, ensuring scientific, technical, and professional rigor. All submitted manuscripts undergo Open Peer Review to ensure the quality of the content. Once a manuscript has successfully passed the review process, Sophia Editions offers three publishing plan options, allowing authors to choose the one that best suits their needs.

Sophia Editions conducts its publishing activities in accordance with applicable intellectual property laws. Authors retain copyright and grant the publisher the right of first publication. Third parties may use published content provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors of the work.

Sophia Editions publishes its scientific output on an open-access basis under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license, which permits the sharing, adaptation, distribution, and reproduction of the material in any medium or format for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author and that derivative works are distributed under the same license. When the intended use exceeds the permissions granted by the license or applicable law, authorization must be obtained directly from the copyright holder.

Peer review process

1. Reception and evaluation preliminary

The publisher recognizes the opportunities these technologies offer to support the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Nevertheless, their use must be governed by the principles of transparency, academic integrity, originality, intellectual responsibility, confidentiality, and human oversight.

Authorship and Intellectual Responsibility

Artificial intelligence tools, including language models, chatbots, and image generators, may not be listed as authors or co-authors of published works because they cannot assume scientific, ethical, or legal responsibility for the content.
Authors shall bear full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and reliability of their manuscripts, including texts, images, tables, data, and other materials produced with the assistance of artificial intelligence. The use of these technologies does not exempt authors from verifying information, checking bibliographic sources, or ensuring compliance with copyright requirements.

Permitted Uses

Artificial intelligence tools may be used to support spelling and grammar correction, stylistic revision, translation, information organization, programming, data processing, and the preparation of graphical representations, provided that human oversight is maintained and the validity of the content is ensured.
The use of these technologies to generate or substantially reformulate academic content must be explicitly disclosed and shall be subject to editorial evaluation. In all cases, the scientific foundation, methodological decisions, interpretation of results, and conclusions must remain under the intellectual responsibility of the authors.

Disclosure of Artificial Intelligence Use

Authors must disclose, when submitting their manuscripts, whether they used artificial intelligence tools during their preparation. Where applicable, they shall identify the tools used, their versions when relevant, the activities performed, and the extent of their involvement.
The disclosure statement must be included in the appropriate section of the work. When these tools have been used in methodological procedures, data analysis, or the generation of results, their use must be described in sufficient detail to allow the evaluation and reproducibility of the procedures.
Authors are not required to specify percentages of content generated by artificial intelligence, given the limitations involved in objectively determining and verifying such proportions.

Prohibited Uses

Content generated by artificial intelligence that has not been examined, substantiated, and validated by the authors may not be presented as their own intellectual contribution.
The use of these tools to fabricate or falsify data, results, bibliographic references, scientific evidence, images, or any other material that compromises academic integrity is prohibited.
The unauthorized disclosure of personal, confidential, or third-party rights-protected information to artificial intelligence systems that do not provide adequate safeguards is also prohibited.

Use of Artificial Intelligence in Images and Figures

Images, illustrations, and graphical representations generated or modified using artificial intelligence must be identified where applicable, specifying the tool used and the nature of its involvement.
The generation or manipulation of images in ways that alter, fabricate, or conceal scientific evidence is prohibited. Authors must ensure the authenticity of materials, compliance with applicable licenses, and the availability of original files when required for editorial evaluation.

Use of Artificial Intelligence by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must preserve the confidentiality of manuscripts submitted for evaluation. They may not upload unpublished documents, confidential data, or information about authors to external artificial intelligence tools without express authorization and adequate data protection safeguards.
Artificial intelligence may be used to support certain editorial tasks, provided that its use is transparent, does not compromise confidentiality, and does not replace the academic judgment of those responsible for the evaluation.
Decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection shall be made exclusively by the individuals responsible for the editorial process.

Verification and Compliance

Sophia Editions may request clarifications, supplementary disclosure statements, and evidence concerning the use of artificial intelligence when there are substantiated concerns regarding the originality, authenticity, or scientific integrity of a work.
Evaluation shall be based on verifiable editorial and scientific criteria. The results of automated tools designed to detect artificial intelligence-generated content shall not, on their own, constitute conclusive evidence of non-compliance.
Failure to disclose relevant information, misuse of these technologies, or the identification of practices contrary to scientific ethics may result in requests for correction, suspension of the evaluation process, or rejection of the manuscript, while ensuring that authors have the opportunity to provide appropriate explanations.

Sophia Editions shall promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence to strengthen the quality of academic publications without replacing human creativity, critical thinking, or intellectual responsibility.
